A Brief History of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte

Tyendinaga was established in 1784 after Mohawks allied with the British during the American Revolution. Originally 92,700 acres (about 145 square miles), only about 18,000 acres (less than 20%) remains, today, due to colonial encroachment, illegal land sales, and government expropriation.

Speaker: Steven Lindsay-Maracle has been a researcher with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte for over five years, primarily working on land claims, community history, harvesting, fishing and hunting applications and genealogy. Before this, he was an Early Childhood Educator for over 30 years. He is now studying to be a Professional Genealogist with the International Institute of Genealogical Studies. He is also Music Director/Organist for The
Presbyterian Church, Deseronto, and Grace United Church, Napanee.

This talk is part of Bay of Quinte Green Party of Ontario Speaker Series, more here.
